Rainbird (Azusa, CA) XS-090 irrigation sprinklers were placed in opposite ends of each plot and adjusted to distribute water evenly without over-spraying plots. A narrow trench/dike was constructed around the border to contain run-off water and discourage root encroachment from neighboring plots. Watermark (Irrometer, Inc., Riverside, CA) soil moisture sensors were buried 10 cm deep in the center of each plot.
