Fig. 1. Width of leaf blades of two cultivars of tall fescue from the ligule through 300 mm toward the leaf tip. Leaves continue to taper for at least another 100 mm. The location of the center of these leaf blades was approximately 215 mm distal to the ligule. Maximum width and leaf midpoint are indicated to demonstrate that leaf width increases for approximately the first one-third of the distance from the ligule toward the tip, then tapers toward the tip over the distal two-thirds of leaf blade length.
