Regional yield trials are conducted to identify cultivars that are well adapted to specific environments. This note proposes application of a multiple comparison procedure for assessing cultivar adaptability. A cultivar is regarded as adapted if it does not differ from the best by more than some prespecifled amount. The procedure assigns cultivars to one of three groups: (i) adapted; (ii) unadapted; and (iii) unclassified. The classification is based on simultaneous confidence intervals for the difference between all cultivars and the best cultivar. Such classification may be a useful tool for cultivar recommendations.
