Extraction of neutron probe access tubes from soils can often be time consuming and costly if not properly managed. Therefore, two neutronprobe access tube extractor units were designed, constructed, and tested for ease of use and damage-free results. One unit was made from a tail pipe expander and was capable of extracting tubes from soils with low moisture content but resulted in time delays because of slippage on the tube and also resulted in some damaged and distorted tubes. The other unit was made from an expanding mandrel and performed acceptably on both coarse and fine-textured soils having both high and low moisture content. This unit eliminated time delays because of slippage and virtually eliminated damaged and distorted tubes.
