Comparison of Methods for Estimating Cotton Leaf Area1

The squared length of the main vein to the right of the central vein X factor was found to be the most precise of four methods employing linear measurements to estimate cotton leaf area. Due to the undulatory surface of cotton leaves, area was found to be underestimated by 5% when planimeter readings were taken of leaf margins. Leaf discs served well as reference area for determining area by the dry-weight method provided both vein and interveinal tissue were sampled
