The movement of K within the soil profile of several Jordan Plot soils was studied. Samples from 6-inch depth intervals (to 36 inches) from plots treated with excess lime, manure, and commercial fertilizer were analyzed forex changeable and acid soluble K, and the data were compared with those from untreated plots of both limed and unlimed tiers.
Long-term applications (77 years) of manure and of commercial K fertilizer (KC1) significantly increased exchangeable K to depths of 12 and 24 inches, respectively. The same treatment significantly increased the amount of acid soluble K in the soil to depths of 6 and 12 inches, respectively. Neither exchangeable nor acid soluble K was influenced by excess lime treatments compared to the untreated plots.
