Organic matter amendment, soil reaction and cation exchange capacity interactions with Eufaula sand and Brewer clay loam were determined for bensulide, S-(O, O-diisopropyl phosphorodithioate) of N-(2-mercaptoethyl) benezenesulfonamide. Herbicidal effectiveness for crabgrass growth was reduced with ground straw and mimosa soil additions. Acid soil reactions reduced bensulide activity on both soil types. Reduced phytotoxicity occurred with increased soil cation exchange capacities in Eufaula-Brewer soil mixtures.
