Effect of Submersion in Water on Tall Fescue, Orchardgrass, and Ladino Clover1

W. B. Gilbert and D. S. Chamblee2

Synopsis: The influence of submersion in water for various intervals at 65° F. and 90° F. on the growth and survival of seedling and mature plants was determined. Tall fescue was more tolerant of flooding than orchardgrass and ladino clover. Seedling and mature plants of orchardgrass and ladino clover were materially damaged by flooding at 90° F. for periods of 2 to 6 days; whereas much less damage was realized at the lower temperature.
