Synopsis: Nitrogen applied directly to corn was more effective than applying to rye green manure preceding corn for a 6-year period. Rye green manure fertilized with nitrogen increased soil organic matter, soil nitrogen, and soil microorganisms including lesion nematodes and improved soil physical properties but did not increase yield.
