Effects of Clipping and Nitrogen Fertilization on Seed Production of Creeping Red Fescue

Synopsis: Seed production of creeping red rescue (Festuca rubra L.) can be improved by limiting nitrogen fertilization until slight deficiencies appear, and by reducing vegetative growth to three inches after each harvest. A combination of these is necessary to reduce sod binding, a factor in poor yields. Restricting vegetative growth also reduces lodging. Limiting lateral spread does not improve seed yield.
