Synopsis: Five orchardgrass varieties from diverse areas of the United States were evaluated for forage yield, total N and P content, recovery of applied N and NO3 accumulation under 4 levels of N fertilization. Varieties showed marked increases in yield, total N and NO3 content as the rates of applied N fertilizer were increased, but showed lower P and N recovery percentages. Marked varietal differences were also found.
