Effect of Plant Population and Planting Pattern of Corn on Water Use and Yield1

Augustine Y. M. Yao and R. H. Shaw2

Synopsis: There was less water use from a 21-inch row spacing than for 32- or 42-inch spacings. A higher rate of water use occurred with higher stands, but the increase in water use was much smaller than the stand increase. The efficiency of water use was highest on the 21-inch row spacing and the lowest on the 42-inch spacing.
