Effect of Various Methods of Seedbed Preparation and Cultivation on Yields of Corn Grown Following Rye1

E. R. Beaty and Joel Giddens2

Synopsis: Plowing a seedbed for corn following rye as a cover crop did not slgnificantly increase corn yields over disking or seeding corn and mulching with rye. Removing rye before seeding corn or allowing the rye to grow after corn seeding ,significantly reduced corn yields. Contro.lling weeds with a hoe was as effective as cultlvation and both were superior to no weed control.
