Selection of Alfalfa Lines for Their Ability to Germinate Under High Osmotic Pressure1

Synopsis: Selections were made from 6 alfalfa varieties for the ability of the seed of these varieties to germinate in a mannitol solution having 12 atmospheres osmotic pressure. This ability to germinate appears to be heritable and varies with the different varieties tested.
