The Dominant Role of Nitrogen in Leaching Losses from Soils in Humid Regions

Synopsis: The nitrate content of the drainage water was the predominating factor associated with the amount of bases in the leachate. The amount of drainage water, or the content of sulfur or chlorine in the leachate, showed little or no correlation.
