Production of Small Grains Pasture Forage Using Sewage Effluent as a Source of Irrigation Water and Plant Nutrients1

A. D. Day and T. C. Tucker2

Synopsis: Winter pasture forage yields equivalent to 11.14 tons per acre were obtained from barley irrigated with sewage effluent with no additional fertilizer. Similarly, wheat and oats produced 263% and 249% more pasture forage, respectively, than check plots that received only pump water. Barley was more sensitive to the detrimental effects of sewage effluent than wheat or oats.
