Generalization of Yield Equations in Two or More Variables: II. Application to Yield Data1

Don Jensen and John Pesek2

Synopsis: Restrictive two-variable quadratic equations defining yield as a function of fertilizer inputs for a given soil fertility level were generalized to forms allowing prediction over a range of initial fertility conditions. Coefficients of equations so generalized from separate restrictive equations were found to estimate parameters of the same equation characteristic of a given soil type. Conclusions were based upon results of statistical methods applied to test the similarity of corresponding coefficients of two and three equations.

1 Journal Paper No. J-3426 of the Iowa Agr. and Home Econ. Exp. Sta., Ames. Project No. 1293. Part of a thesis submitted by the senior author in partial fulfillment of requirements for the M.S. degree in Agronomy. The research was supported in part under a contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
