Water Use from Plastic-covered and Uncovered Corn Plots1

Synopsis: Soil moisture loss from plots where the ground surface was covered with plastic was 46~/o of the total loss from an uncovered plot. When intercepted water was included as water loss on the plastic-covered plot, the loss from the plastic-covered plot averaged 90% of that from an uncovered plot at low levels of radiation, and 72% at high levels of radiation.
