F. C. Stickler, W. D. Shrader and I. J. Johnson2

Synopsis: The mean corn-producing value of nitrogen from 19 legume green manures as determined by first- and secondyear corn data, was equivalent to that of 34 and 64 pounds per acre of inorganic nitrogen, respectively. In four corn response tests, nitrogen contained in legumes was from 16 to 92~ as effective as inorganic nitrogen for increasing corn yields.
