Phosphate Sources in Pasture Production on a Bernard Clay Loam1

Ralph M. Weihing, A. G. Caldwell and J. F. Fudge2

Synopsis: Superphosphate, basic slag, and rock phosphate significantly increased the yield of forage as well as the protein and phosphorus contents, but an annual application of P2O5 as superphosphate was superior to the other treatments.

1 Cooperative investigations at the Rice-Pasture Experiment Station, Beaumont, Texas, of the Crops Research Division, ARS, USDA; the Texas Agr. Exp. Sta.; and the Texas Rice Improvement Association. Appreciation is expressed to the several agronomists whose generous cooperation and advice contributed to this project and, especially, to personnel of the State Chemist Laboratory for chemical analysis of the forage samples. Presented before Div. IX, Crop Science Society of America, Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 18, 1957.

2 Research Agronomist, Crops Research Division, ARS, USDA, and Agronomist, Texas Agr. Exp. Sta.; Associate Professor; and Professor, Tex. Agr. Exp. Sta.; respectively.

Received for publication May 21, 1958.
