Sypnosis: California's commercial varieties of barley, oats, and wheat showed similar yield reductions from yellow-dwarf virus for which there is no universal diagnostic symptom. American barley varieties in general were more susceptible than California's. Since significant yield reductions were common, and reductions above 70% not unusual for susceptible varieties, yellow dwarf must be ranked as a major cereal crops disease.
