Synopsis: Crosses were made with short awned varieties x hooded strains resulting in a 2-factor segregation for hoods, short and long awns, in a 9:4:3 ratio.
Double recessive short awned segregates (kk lklk) must be used in crosses to hooded rather than KK lklk genotypes if a 2-factor segregation is desired.
Crosses were then made using long and short awned barley varieties in which occasionally a ratio of 9: hooded: 3 long awned: 4 short awned plants were obtained in the F2 generation.
