Soil Fertility Effects of Intensive Greenhouse Cropping With Peanuts1

P. H. Reid and E. T. York, Jr.2

Synopsis: Fertilization of peanuts with inorganic phosphorus plus potassium in amounts equal to that removed by the previous crop was more effective in maintaining peanut yield than was fertilization with the plant material. Phosphorus fertilization alone was of little value in maintaining production. After two crops, the soil potassium was reduced to a low level and a uniform rate of potassium supply was reached.

1 Contribution of the Soils Department of North Carolina State College Experiment Station and published with the approval of the Director as Paper No. 797 of the Journal series.

2 Research Assistant Professor, and formerly Head, Department of Agronomy, now Northeast Manager, American Potash Institute, Washington, D.C., respectively.

Received for publication April 9, 1957.
